Winston Score History

The full picture

BASF is a German company that makes chemicals used in almost every industry on Earth. Its products include plastics, fertilizers, paints, coatings, and specialty ingredients sold to customers in agriculture, automotive, construction, and consumer goods. It is one of the largest chemical companies in the world and operates the Verbund, a massive network of interconnected factories in Ludwigshafen, Germany, where waste from one process becomes raw material for another.

BASF earns money by selling chemicals and materials to industrial customers rather than directly to consumers. It operates in over 90 countries, generating roughly €68 billion in annual sales, with Europe as its largest market and China as a key growth region. Its main competitive advantage is the cost efficiency of its Verbund production system, but the company faces real pressure from high European energy costs and slowing demand from the automotive sector, both of which have weighed on profit margins in recent years.
