Winston Score History

The full picture

Cia de Ferro Ligas da Bahia, known as FERBASA, is a Brazilian company that mines chromite ore and turns it into ferroalloys — metals mixed together to make steel stronger and more resistant to rust. Its main products are ferrochromium and other chrome-based alloys, which it sells primarily to steelmakers and stainless steel producers in Brazil and abroad. FERBASA is one of the largest producers of ferrochromium in Latin America and controls its own chromite mines in the state of Bahia, Brazil.

The company makes money by selling ferroalloys directly to industrial customers, with revenue tied closely to global ferrochromium prices and steel demand. It operates almost entirely in Brazil, though it exports a meaningful share of its output. Its vertical integration — owning mines, smelters, and even some of its own electricity generation — gives it a cost advantage over rivals. The main risk is that ferrochromium prices are set globally and can fall sharply when steel demand weakens, which is reflected in the company's currently thin margins.
