Winston Score History

The full picture

Elkem ASA is a Norwegian company that makes materials used in thousands of everyday products. Its three main businesses are silicon, silicones, and carbon solutions. Silicon and silicones go into things like solar panels, electric vehicles, electronics, and personal care products. Carbon products are used in aluminum and steel production. Elkem is one of the largest integrated silicone producers in the world.

Elkem makes money by selling these materials to industrial customers across Europe, Asia, and the Americas. It operates its own mines and smelters, which gives it some control over raw material costs — a key part of its competitive position. The company is majority-owned by China National Bluestar, giving it strong ties to Asian markets. However, Elkem faces real pressure from overcapacity in the global silicones market, particularly from Chinese producers, which has squeezed margins significantly in recent years. A recovery in silicone pricing is the main factor that would improve profitability going forward.

Revenue declining

Elkem ASA's revenue is actually shrinking. In a growth stock, that removes the core investment thesis. The low Winston Score here may be warranted — unless there's a turnaround story.

The Winston Score above measures business quality today. Growth stocks often score lower because they invest in the future rather than maximising current profits. These metrics show what matters most for evaluating that future.
