§Winston Score History

The full picture

Gem Diamonds is a diamond mining company that finds and sells large, high-quality diamonds. Its main asset is the Letšeng mine in Lesotho, a small country in southern Africa. Letšeng is known for producing some of the world's largest and most valuable diamonds, including stones that have sold for tens of millions of dollars.

The company makes money by selling rough diamonds at international tenders, where buyers bid on individual stones. Because Letšeng consistently produces exceptional large diamonds, Gem Diamonds can command premium prices compared to typical diamond mines. However, the mine has a low diamond recovery rate per ton of rock processed, meaning costs are high and profitability depends heavily on finding enough big stones. The key risk is that revenue can swing dramatically from quarter to quarter based on whether rare, high-value diamonds are recovered during that period.

The Winston Score above measures business quality today. Growth stocks often score lower because they invest in the future rather than maximising current profits. These metrics show what matters most for evaluating that future.
