Winston Score History

The full picture

Mercury Systems makes specialized electronics and computing hardware for the U.S. military. Its products include signal processing modules, radar components, and secure data systems that go inside fighter jets, missiles, submarines, and other defense platforms. The company sits in the middle of the defense supply chain — it buys commercial chips and components, then packages them into rugged, mission-ready systems that prime contractors like Raytheon, Lockheed Martin, and Northrop Grumman install into weapons programs.

Mercury earns revenue by selling hardware and software under long-term defense contracts, mostly with the U.S. Department of Defense. Nearly all of its business is in the United States, and its competitive edge comes from deep integration into classified programs that are difficult to replace mid-contract. However, the company has struggled with thin margins and execution challenges in recent years, and its very low operating and return-on-capital figures reflect ongoing cost pressures — managing program profitability and winning new contract awards are the key challenges ahead.
