Winston Score History

The full picture

PENN Entertainment runs casinos and sports betting services across the United States. It owns or operates around 40 casino properties under brands like Hollywood Casino and Ameristar, serving everyday gamblers and sports bettors. The company also owns ESPN Bet, an online sports betting app built through a licensing deal with ESPN.

PENN makes money from casino floor revenue — slot machines, table games, and hotel stays — as well as from online sports betting and iGaming wagers placed through ESPN Bet. It operates almost entirely in the US, making it one of the larger regional casino operators in the country. The ESPN Bet partnership gives PENN access to a massive sports audience, but the online gambling market is intensely competitive, and PENN has struggled to turn a profit, as reflected in its negative operating margin. Gaining meaningful market share in digital betting against well-funded rivals like DraftKings and FanDuel remains the company's biggest challenge.
