Winston Score History

The full picture

Pretium Resources is a Canadian gold mining company. It owns and operates the Brucejack Mine, a high-grade underground gold mine located in northwestern British Columbia, Canada. Brucejack is one of the highest-grade gold mines in the world, which means the rock it digs up contains an unusually large amount of gold per tonne.

The company makes money by mining gold ore, processing it, and selling the refined gold to bullion dealers and refiners. Pretium operates almost entirely in Canada, making it a single-asset, single-country business. Its main competitive advantage is the exceptional ore grade at Brucejack, which helps keep production costs relatively low. However, relying on one mine creates real risk — any operational problems, flooding, or unexpected drops in ore grade could significantly hurt revenue. Gold price swings also directly affect how profitable the company is, since gold is sold at whatever the market price happens to be.

Revenue declining

Pretium Resources's revenue is actually shrinking. In a growth stock, that removes the core investment thesis. The low Winston Score here may be warranted — unless there's a turnaround story.

The Winston Score above measures business quality today. Growth stocks often score lower because they invest in the future rather than maximising current profits. These metrics show what matters most for evaluating that future.
