Winston Score History

The full picture

RAVE Restaurant Group owns and franchises pizza restaurant brands in the United States. Its main brand is Pizza Inn, a buffet-style pizza chain that has operated since the 1950s and is one of the oldest pizza chains in the country. It also operates Pie Five, a fast-casual concept where customers build their own personal pizzas.

The company makes most of its money by collecting royalty fees and other payments from franchisees who run the restaurants under its brand names. RAVE itself owns very few locations directly, which explains its high gross margins since it avoids most of the costs of running physical restaurants. Operations are concentrated in the southern United States, and the business is quite small with a market cap near zero. The key risk is that both brands face intense competition from larger pizza chains like Pizza Hut and Domino's, and shrinking franchisee counts in recent years have put pressure on revenue growth.
