Winston Score History

The full picture

Rusoro Mining Ltd. is a Canadian mining company that was once one of the largest gold producers operating in Venezuela. It built and acquired a portfolio of gold mines and exploration properties in Venezuela, selling gold to commodity markets and government buyers. The company is best known for having its Venezuelan mining assets nationalized by the Venezuelan government in 2011.

After the nationalization, Rusoro pursued international arbitration against Venezuela under a Canada-Venezuela investment treaty. In 2016, an arbitration tribunal awarded Rusoro roughly $967 million in compensation, making the company's value largely tied to collecting on that legal judgment rather than active mining operations. The company operates with minimal revenue today, so its financial margins reflect a business in recovery mode rather than production. The key risk — and potential catalyst — is whether Rusoro can actually collect the awarded damages from Venezuela, a country with a long history of resisting or delaying payment on international arbitration rulings.

Rusoro Mining has less than a year of cash at its current burn rate. Growth investors should watch for potential share dilution from future fundraising — that directly reduces your ownership.

The Winston Score above measures business quality today. Growth stocks often score lower because they invest in the future rather than maximising current profits. These metrics show what matters most for evaluating that future.
