Winston Score History

The full picture

Tourmaline Oil Corp. is a Canadian energy company that finds and produces natural gas, natural gas liquids, and oil. It sells these resources mainly to utilities, industrial buyers, and energy marketers across Canada and the United States. Tourmaline is Canada's largest natural gas producer, with most of its operations concentrated in the Western Canadian Sedimentary Basin in Alberta and British Columbia.

The company makes money by selling the hydrocarbons it extracts, so its revenue rises and falls with commodity prices. Tourmaline keeps costs low by owning much of its own processing and pipeline infrastructure, which gives it more control over margins than many smaller peers. The company has grown steadily through acquisitions and drilling, but its biggest risk is its heavy exposure to natural gas prices, which can be volatile and have weighed on margins recently, as reflected in its low gross and operating margins.

Revenue accelerating

Tourmaline Oil grew revenue 25% year-over-year and the growth rate is speeding up. That's the kind of momentum growth investors look for — the question is whether margins can follow.

The Winston Score above measures business quality today. Growth stocks often score lower because they invest in the future rather than maximising current profits. These metrics show what matters most for evaluating that future.
