Winston Score History

The full picture

VeriSign runs the internet's address book. Specifically, it manages the registries for .com and .net domain names — the endings you see on most websites. When anyone in the world registers a .com or .net website address, VeriSign is the company behind the scenes making sure that address works. It is the only company authorized to run the .com registry, which contains over 160 million domain names.

VeriSign charges a small annual fee for every .com and .net domain name that exists, creating a steady, recurring revenue stream. It operates globally but is headquartered in the United States, and its exclusive contract with ICANN to run the .com registry gives it an extremely rare, government-backed monopoly. That contract has been renewed repeatedly and is currently set through 2030, but the key risk is that long-term growth depends on demand for new domain registrations, which has slowed as businesses increasingly build their presence on social media and app platforms instead.
